TUPELO, MS:  “It’s so simple to put on a seat belt; it should just be automatic,” stated Chief Ranger Sarah Davis. “As the Memorial Day weekend approaches and the summer travel season ramps up, we want to keep our visitors safe and make sure people are doing the one thing that can save them in a crash; buckling up.”  From May 15 to June 4, 2017, rangers will focus on seatbelt violations in conjunction with the Click It or Ticket national seat belt enforcement campaign.

The Natchez Trace Parkway will join state and local law enforcement agencies in Tennessee, Alabama, and Mississippi in the effort.  Signs reminding the public to wear their seat belts have been placed along the Parkway for the duration of the campaign. Rangers will use marked and unmarked vehicles to enforce the law and ensure occupants buckle up.

“Our law enforcement personnel see firsthand the loss of life when people refuse to buckle up,” said Chief Ranger Sarah Davis. “Wearing a seatbelt can save your life and may prevent serious injury.  It should just be automatic every time you get in a car.”
