Natchez Trace Parkway Wishes the National Park Service Happy 97th Birthday! Free Entrance Day in the National Parks
On Sunday, August 25, 2013, the National Park Service is celebrating their 97th birthday! In honor of the BIG 9-7, all National Park entrance fees will be waived — what better to celebrate!
On August 25, 1916, President Woodrow Wilson signed into law legislation creating the National Park Service. The National Park Service was directed “to conserve the scenery and the natural and historic objects and the wild life therein and to provide for the enjoyment of the same in such manner and by such means as will leave them unimpaired for the enjoyment of future generations.”
The Natchez Trace Parkway will offer an interactive photography program at the Chickasaw Village Site (milepost 261.8 near Tupelo, MS) on August 24, 2013 at 8:00 a.m. A photography exhibit featuring images of national parks from across the country is on display through the month of August at the Natchez Trace Parkway Visitor Center (milepost 266.) The exhibit features photos from visitors, staff, and junior rangers.
