TUPELO, MS: Natchez Trace Parkway Chief Ranger Sarah Davis has received the Southeast Region’s first award to recognize performance excellence among chief rangers. The Southeast Region encompasses about 66 parks that range in size from large national parks to smaller historic sites.
“We were very proud to nominate Sarah for this recognition and are thrilled that she was selected to receive the award,” stated Superintendent Mary Risser. “Sarah provides a very high level of professional leadership for the Ranger Division. She emphasizes the critical need for her staff to exhibit extremely high standards of integrity and sets the standard herself with her actions.”
Selection criteria for the award included leadership development, operational leadership, and cooperation and collaboration. Davis supports her staff and provides opportunities for their professional growth through mentoring, supporting detail assignments to other parks, providing enhanced supervisory and management training, and recognizing performance. Davis ensures that the staff receives all the required training and has the best and safest equipment, which are necessary for effective risk management in a line of work that is so inherently dangerous. Sarah consistently demonstrates a willingness to collaborate across Parkway boundaries as she provides law enforcement support to neighboring parks. She also works closely with other local, state, and federal entities.
“I was totally surprised and humbled by receiving this award,” claimed Davis. “Being the first recipient of the award makes it even more special.”
