Tupelo, MS: Effective immediately, the Natchez Trace Parkway has closed the Parkway motor road between the southern terminus at Liberty Road in Natchez, Mississippi, and milepost 8.5 at Highway 61, near Washington, Mississippi. The closure is necessary due to the possibility of heavy rains and winds forecasted for the storm “Isaac.” The duration of the closure is undetermined at this time, but the Parkway will work to reopen the area as soon as possible.

Travelers are advised to avoid using the Parkway in southern Mississippi during the storm and in the aftermath due to the possibilities of falling trees and other obstructions. Remember, also, that cellular coverage is limited to non-existent on certain sections of the Parkway.

We will keep the public informed of any other closures and detours through further advisories as needed.
