Natchez Trace Announces Availability of Wetland Statement of Findings for Chiwapa Creek Bank Stabilization

TUPELO, MS: The National Park Service is seeking public comment on a wetland and floodplain Statement of Findings (SOF) that analyzes impacts of a bank stabilization project at Chiwapa Creek (milepost 253, Lee County, Mississippi). The purpose of the project is to remove an island sandbar within the creek that causes water diversion and increased streambank erosion, and to mitigate existing erosion of the streambank using rip rap/rock. This SOF documents compliance with Executive Orders 11988 and 11990, which govern protection of wetlands and management of floodplains.

The Natchez Trace Parkway Presents Traditional Music by the North Mississippi Dulcimer Association

Natchez Trace Parkway Traveler Advisory Winter Storm Weather Advisory

TUPELO, MS: A traveler advisory is in effect for the Natchez Trace Parkway from Jackson, MS (milepost 100) to the Alabama state line (milepost 310).

The National Weather Service has issued winter storm warnings and advisories for these areas. A mixture of sleet, freezing rain, ice and snow can be expected beginning Monday evening and extending into Tuesday evening. The greatest area of impact on the Parkway is expected to be between Kosciusko, MS and Tupelo, MS.

TUPELO, MS: A traveler advisory is in effect for the Natchez Trace Parkway from mile post 100 at Jackson, MS south to mile post 0 at Natchez, MS. The National Weather Service in Jackson, MS has issued a winter weather advisory for accumulating snow and sleet; which is in effect until 5:00 PM this afternoon.

NATCHEZ, MS – The Natchez Trace Parkway will host a Junior Ranger Day at the Mount Locust Information Center on Monday, February 17, 2014 from 10:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Junior Rangers will have the opportunity to earn their Junior Ranger Badge, or Junior Boatman Patch by participating in different activities.
