The Elephant Sanctuary in Tennessee was founded in 1995 and is the nation’s largest natural-habitat refuge developed specifically to meet the needs of aging elephants retired from performance and exhibition. Located on 2,700 acres in Hohenwald, Tennessee, the habitats where the elephants live are not open to the public. However, The Elephant Discovery Center in downtown Hohenwald offers visitors regular educational programming and interactive self-guided exhibits that explore the many ways elephants shape our world. The Elephant Discovery Center is located at 27 E. Main St. in downtown Hohenwald.
