Nashville : The National Folk Festival

  • September 2 – 4
  • One of the most prestigious and longest-running celebrations of the arts, the National Folk Festival, is coming to Nashville for a three-year tenure beginning Labor Day Weekend. The festival features a variety of music and dance performances, participatory dancing, workshops, children’s activities, regional and ethnic foods, storytelling, parades, craft exhibits and demonstrations, and more. The free festival will be held at the Bicentennial Capitol Mall State Park, located in the shadow of the State Capitol in downtown Nashville, the 19-acre park was built in 1996 and is a lasting monument to the state’s bicentennial celebration.

Collinwood – Old Timer’s Day

  • In Collinwood, Tennessee, the Old Timer’s Day festival is at the Ralph M. Hughes city park on Saturday, September 3rd. It features live music, arts & crafts, food. Mr. and Mrs. Old Timer will lead parade at 10 am.

Franklin – Franklin Jazz Festival

  • The 2011 Franklin Jazz Festival returns to downtown Franklin Square on Saturday, September 3rd and Sunday, September 4th.
  • The Franklin Jazz Festival is a celebration of the American art form known as Jazz. It proudly presents the best local, regional, and national talent. Beside live music, there are kids activities, vendors, food and fun.  A portion of all profits of the Franklin Jazz Festival is proudly benefiting the Gear Foundation.

Leiper’s Fork – Bluegrass in the Fork

Tuscumbia – Coondog Graveyard Labor Day Celebration

  • Coondog Graveyard Labor Day Celebration in Tuscumbia, AL happens each Labor Day. The Tennessee Valley Coon Hunter’s Association hosts a celebration at the Coondog Cemetery. Entertainment includes music, dancing, food and a liar’s contest. Official Coon Dog T-shirts, Cemetery Pins, and Camouflage Caps available will be available to purchase.

Tupelo – What’s out after dark?

  • September 3, 2011 • 7:00 p.m. • Natchez Trace Parkway Visitor Center located at milepost 266 near Tupelo, Mississippi
  • Explore the Natchez Trace Parkway at night along a 1/2 mile nature trail at the Visitor Center, milepost 266 outside of Tupelo, Mississippi. Families are invited to join a Park Ranger and use all of their senses to find out “what’s out after dark!” Participants are encouraged to bring insect repellent and wear comfortable walking shoes.

89th Shoals Area Labor Council, Labor Day Festivities

  • Parade at 10 am, activities in the park, State and local leaders speak, as will as Union Reps. Live Music, Miss & Little Miss Labor Day contest. Prizes will be given all day. Beans & Stuff will be selling food in the Park.
