Natchez Trace Parkway Announces Free Junior Ranger Programs, June 2011
The Natchez Trace Parkway will begin Junior Ranger programs at the Natchez Trace Parkway Visitor Center on June 4, 2011. The programs will be conducted Saturday mornings beginning at 10:00 a.m. and will cover natural and cultural history topics that are related to the Natchez Trace Parkway. Parkway programs are free to the public and target children ages 7-12. Junior Ranger Programs for June are as follows:
June 11, 2011, at 10:00 a.m.
“Kaintuck Camping” Participants will follow in the path of an early “Kaintuck” and set up an early 1800s style camp. Junior Rangers will learn a variety of hands-on skills including setting up a wedge style tent and learning to start a campfire using flint & steel.
June 18, 2011, at 10:00 a.m.
“Nature Bingo” Junior Rangers will practice nature observation skills and see if they can fill their “Bingo” card.
June 25, 2011, at 10:00 a.m.
“Fish Printing” Children will learn more about Mississippi fish species by practicing the art of fish printing. Participants can make a fish print to take home. All supplies are included.
July 2, 2011, at 10:00 a.m.
“Can You See Me Now?” The Natchez Trace is home to many animals, some of which are hard to spot. Junior Rangers will discover more about animal camouflage through hands-on activities.
July 9, 2011, at 10:00 a.m.
“Make a Berry Basket” Junior Rangers will use traditional materials to make a small berry basket to take home.
