Natchez Trace Parkway Rangers Hold Successful Safety Initiative
HINDS CO and MADISON CO, MS – Motorist traveling the Natchez Trace Parkway from I-20 to Highway 43 last week may have noticed an increased presence of law enforcement rangers. Rangers from the Ridgeland area and from other areas of the Parkway participated in a five-day saturation patrol focusing on highway traffic safety. During the event, Rangers issued over 300 citations for a variety of violations including over 240 speeding citations, numerous citations for driving while suspended, no insurance, and failure to comply with traffic control devices.
Highway safety is a high priority for Parkway law enforcement, focusing on aggressive drivers and especially speeders. Chief Ranger Sarah Davis emphasized the importance of reducing overall speeds on the Parkway to reduce the number and severity of motor vehicle collisions. Additional saturation patrols will occur over the next year to ensure that commuters drive within the speed limit and to stop aggressive drivers.
Chief Davis recognized the importance of teamwork between the Parkway Rangers and other agencies that assisted with this successful saturation including the Mississippi Highway Patrol and the City of Ridgeland Police Department. Rangers encourage drivers to report aggressive drivers and commercial tractor-trailers to the Parkway Emergency Line at 1-800-300-PARK (7215).
